Our research often appeals to those who have a sense of wonder about the larger questions, such as, how did our universe
start and what is the character of the most elementary of nature's constituents? Some say that it was an overdose of this sort
of curiosity that pulled most of us into the physics profession. When we speak with our families, neighbors, and our students,
we find that many are also intrigued by our subject.
Our work in particle physics is part of a larger enterprise in basic research undertaken in the U.S. and in the rest of the world. The field is funded through grants and contracts with the U.S. government (and through similar vehicles for our collaborators from abroad). We believe that the case for public funding of basic research is quite compelling, and we look forward to your support in the future.
